The New Crew

They have arrived. The new crew is here. They represent many different cultural backgrounds - Cuban, Chinese, Spanish, and of course, American. They are very different from the "rockstars" of last year, but so far, I think they are alright. But, as always, time reveals all.

It's a different feeling to be the one here, welcoming them with leis, showing them around, introducing them to everyone and everything. But it feels good. It feels good to share my island with them. It makes Saipan feel even more like home. It also brings back many precious memories from last year....it reminds me of the first time I did all the things and saw all the places that they are now doing and seeing. It revives those old memories and makes it not feel so far away.

So here they are - meet the new crew..........
This is my current roommate, Rosana. She was the summer ESL teacher. We connected pretty quickly....it's an Indian thing. Who knows.....were could be distant cousins! She'll be heading home this week, and I'll miss her!
These are my new roommates. Jessica, on the left, will be teaching ESL and Bible for grades 5-10. Veronica, on the right, will be the Kindergarten teacher.

These are "The Others", as we fondly refer to them as. They live at a different apartment complex near the school. (R-L: Riki, Eva, Amy, ME!!) Riki will be teaching at the pre-school. Eva will be teaching grade 1 & 2 next door to me, and Amy is the new pre-school director and will also teaching one of the pre-school classes.

Look! It's Sean! It's great to have Sean and Barbara back on island. Sean's birthday was on Friday.........it was an extra special birthday because he actually got to have a birthday. Most years he misses his birthday as he flies back to Saipan and crosses the international date line. So we celebrated with him and ate lots of pasta and pie! Happy Birthday, Sean!

Another great thing about being back is the kids! I love these kids and missed them a lot over the summer. Here are a few of them............
