Welcome to Cambodia - The Kingdom of Wonder
Cambodia was quite the adventure! It was "Songkran" (Thai New Year), so we had a week off school, so we decided to go visit Cambodia with our friend, Seyha. He was getting engaged and wanted us to share the occasion with him, plus, he wanted to show us his country.
We first traveled to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. It was a full day's travel to get there, although, a lot of time was spent standing in line at the border to get through. We spent the weekend in Phnom Penh with Seyha's family and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed experiencing a traditional Cambodian engagement ceremony, as well as, touring the capital city. While there we visited some of the Khmer Rouge historical sites - very sad.
On Tuesday, we headed over to Siam Reap. There's an Adventist orphanage just outside of Siam Reap that I really wanted to visit, plus everyone kept telling us that we needed to go so Angkor Wat while in Cambodia. We spent the rest of our time in Siam Ream and at the orphanage before heading back to Thailand.
We experienced a huge miracle on our way home! Andrew and I were traveling alone, because Seyha had gone back to Phnom Penh and was returning to school later than us. We didn't want to go all the way into Bangkok before heading up to Mission College, so we decided to take a tour bus to the border and then try to catch a public bus to our province and then another one to our town. I knew it was gonna be a long day and wasn't even sure if we'd even be able to make all the necessary connections. When we got off the tour bus at the border, a man from the company was trying to tell us that there weren't anymore public buses going to our province that day and he was trying to sell us a bus ticket with his company for an outrageous price. We didn't want to buy his ticket, but we were wondering if he was actually telling the truth about no more public buses that day. We decided to cross the street into the shade to pray and ask God for help getting home. But before we even made it across the street, God had already provided an answer for us!! There was a group of Mission College students also traveling back and they recognized us and invited us to travel with them. There was enough of us to rent a van so we could travel directly back to the College! What an amazing answer to our prayers!
