Thai Wedding

You gotta experience everything at least once...... well, probably not everything, but going to a Thai wedding was a unique opportunity that we just couldn't pass up! We didn't even know the couple getting married, but our neighbor down at the Center - the barber - invited us. It was his beautiful, 20-year old daughter was marrying a farang (foreigner - from Australian).

It wasn't a mid-morning, or even an afternoon wedding. No, not even close. The festivities began at 7 a.m. with the reception at 10 a.m.! Since the wedding was taking place about 3 hours away, we left around 5 and missed the first part of the ceremony. When we arrived, we heard the monks chanting blessings over a loud speaker.

Later, we watched the groom and his party approaching, with lots of dancing and loud music.

Once the reception started, there was more loud music and dancing.
Some of my table-mates during the reception - Katie, Madelin, and Bah.

The (hopefully) happy couple.... I can't help but wonder why such a beautiful, young woman is marrying an ailing, old man. Perhaps it's true love..... or perhaps it's just because he's a foreigner..... Either way, I hope they find true happiness and love!

The party was winding down by noon, so we made our exit. By that time, Pastor Ryan's 3 little girls were definitely ready to go. I tried to get a picture of all 3 of them at once, but this was the best I could do!
