The Grind
There's a mountain here on the north shore of Vancouver called Grouse Mountain. During the winter, it's covered with snow and crawling with skiers and snowboarders. But during the summer, there's a different group of people visiting it's slopes - they're hikers, hiking "The Grind."
It's a pretty intense hike, divided into 4 parts. It's quite steep and is pretty must like doing a StairMaster workout! It'll take the average person about and an hour and a half to get to the top, but there are records of people who have done it in 35 minutes or less! (It took me and hour, 15 minutes...)

Once you get to the top, everything, except food, is for free. You can watch various shows and presentations that they put on. You can visit Cooola and Grinder, the orphaned grizzly bears that were rescued and now live on Grouse Mountain. You can even go to a lumber-jack show!!

This is a "Beaver-Tail," a very Canadian, sinfully delicious snack that you can munch on while watching the show. You can have it with just cinnamon and sugar, which is still yummy, but not as sinful!!

It wasn't the clearest day, but you can see the University of British Columbia (that little peninsula that sticks out by my shoulder) and the Burrard Inlet in the background.
Like I said, it's a pretty intense hike, and it got it's name - The Grind - for a reason!! But once you get to the top, it's definitely worth it!! The good news is that you don't have to hike back down! You can take a gondola for $5!! (To take the gondola up, it's $37, so the free hike pays off!)

But one wrong cut and it turned into a baby chair!

Riding the chair lift to the very top to catch the view
