Cultural Day

Instead of doing a Spirit Week at my new school, we have a different "Spirit Day" on the last Friday of each month. Last week, it was "Cultural Day", which is always my favourite!! On the morning of Cultural Day, I slid my closet door open, only to realize that I had only one Indian outfit to choose from. I could've worn something from Thailand, Laos, Peru, or China, but that wouldn't be MY culture. So I donned the only outfit that I have here - my favourite, red sari - hoping the school day wouldn't be too hard on it.

My 7th graders who had enough "School Spirit" to come dressed up

Me with my kids

Even though the majority of the kids at my school are Asian, the Indian kids must have the most "school spirit" because they were the majority of the ones that were dressed up. I took some pictures with a few of the Indian girls, although there were probably another 10-15 that should've been in the picture. (The girl in blue on the far right is my cousin; I teach her in my 3 6th grade classes.)

Gorgeous! Is there a boy wearing a Barong Tagalog? I wouldn't doubt it- we Filipinos are everywhere!

Yep, we've got lots of filipinos in our school. The boy you see wearing it is half filipino/half black. He's a sweet boy! :)
