A Day to Remember
Whether you know it as Remembrance Day or Veteran's Day, it's observed on November 11 every year. Since we don't have school on the 11th, we always observe it on the 10th at school with our students. We want them to understand the significance of that day - it's not just another day off school. It makes it an extra special day for me since that's also my birthday.
This year, Sergeant Otto Costillo came to our school and I invited him to my classroom to speak to my students. Since Canada is a neutral country, his job is known as peace-keeping. He talked to the kids a lot about that, his main message being, "War is not cool!"
One of my kids was lucky enough to try his vest on!
Later that evening, my roommates and a couple friends from church came over to help me celebrate another year of life filled with so many blessings!
