Celebrating Christmas

School Christmas programs have become a tradition, a good way for families to come together to celebrate Christmas together before school closes for the break. It's also a good way to showcase what the students have learned over the first few months of the school year. Because our school has grown so much, we have to have 2 separate programs for the Elementary & the Secondary so that everyone can participate without the program being 4 hours long! So it was a busy week with lots of practicing and 2 extra long days! But it was worth it!

The Elementary program was called "A Heart-Felt Christmas" and the play centred around a little girl who lost her hamsters because she left the cage door open to give them the freedom of choice. Her grandpa tells her a Bible story about how God lost His "hamsters" and how He worked so hard and even gave His life to get His "hamsters" back. It was pretty cute! Intermittently throughout the play there was music performed by the band and choirs.

Grandpa is trying to encourage Anne by telling her that God often feels the same way. "Grandpa" is one of my boys and he has a real gift for acting. He did a great job and really fit the part!

The Secondary program was called "The Beginning" and was the story of a writer who was asked to re-write the Nativity story to make it more up-to-date and modern. The play shows the actors acting it out as he's trying to re-write it and make edits along the way. But for every scene, try as he might to change the wording and make it more modern, he always ended up going back to the original wording of the Bible. By the end of the play, he comes to the conclusion that the story doesn't need to be modernized, it's perfect just he way it is. The high school kids did a great job on it!

Here are a few pictures from the play. The lighting made it hard to take good pictures, but you can still get a sense of the play.....

The "writer" is on the left side trying to write the scene of the angel telling Mary that she has been chosen to be the mother of Jesus.

This part was hilarious: that white blur - that's the angel. He had been hovering over the shepherds to tell him about Jesus...... until the stage hands dropped him! But dropping him was actually part of the script. The "writer" decided that the hovering angel in a harness wasn't going to work very well and cut that part out of the play.
