Sunsets & Barbed Wire
If “a picture is worth a thousand words,” then here’s a snapshot which appropriately describes life here.
Towering cement walls. Confining barbed wire. These are everywhere, physically, all around the city. These are the first things that go up in order to protect one’s property. These, unfortunately, are often necessary for safety. But there are also other sorts of cement wall and barbed wire that often seem to plague life here: roadblocks, dead-end streets, discouragement, set-backs, and limitations, just to name a few.
Yet, the other half of the photo tells the rest of the story - cheerful papaya trees and elaborate sunsets. These are just a couple of the physical blessings that we get to enjoy here, not to mention the beautiful beaches, perfect-temperature ocean, amazing sea life…. the list could go on. In many ways, life is a lot more simple and slower paced.
It’s just too bad we can’t have the papaya trees and sunsets without all the walls and wire.
